wheel sizes and offsets?
Can someone please tell me the stock wheel widths (and more importantly) offsets (front and rear) for the 18" Twist wheels for a 2002 Boxster S? I imagine these same wheels were optional on other model years as well. I'm looking to get some aftermarket wheels, and want to make sure the sizes are correct.
thanks! |
depends on what width you want. 8" front, 10" rear is pretty common. let us know and we'll give you the offset.

Yes, I'm planning on getting 19x8.5 and 19x10 rears. Thanks.

i'd go with 40 - 44mm offset up front and 44 - 47 offset in the rear. (the lower the offset, the more the wheel moves OUT from the car). Anything lower than a 44mm offset in the rear will scrub your brake lines. anything larger than a 47mm in the rear may rub your fenders when you hit bumps. some people will tell you they run up to 42mm offset w/ 10" wheels w/o hitting the fenders. this CAN be true, but depending on your tire choices, it's likely you'll have some scrubbing.
also, i'd recommend NOT getting 19's, but that's my preference. they kill the ride quality and they bend too easily. plus, tires are horribly expensive. if you need spacers, SUBTRACT the spacer width from the wheel offset to get total offset (i.e. 65mm offset + 21mm spacer = 44mm offset) |

good to know they're comfortable. i'd still be afraid to bend them; atlanta potholes suck.

Thanks for the info, everyone. So what is standard size and offset for the stock 18" Twist wheels?
|
there were two different 18" packages available for the 986:
Front: 7.5 x 18 ET50 (225/40 18) Rear: 9.0 x 18 ET52 (265/35 18) or Front: 8.0 x 18 ET50 (225/40 18) Rear: 10.0 x 18 ET47 (265/35 18) with the latter package, you can run 245's up front and 285's in back if you choose. |
You're saying there were 2 different "Twist" 18" wheels in 2002??? Same height but different widths?
