How do I re-train my tiptronic's shift points?

When my indy dropped my trans / engine to do the RMS and IMS, he mentioned to me the trans will need to be retrained on the shift points because it was dropped out of the vehicle. I've heard this with other vehicles.

Since I've been driving the car 30days now, for some scenarios it does shift better, but when I take off from a stop sign and get up to 45mph, it jumps into 5th gear waay too fast; even when I drive marginally spirited.

Of course I can shift manually, and do quite often.

Is there a specific way to train the transmission to shift when I want it to?

When they had the Tip out, did they drain and refill the fluid (best time to do it as you can get all the fluid out)?

He did not mention that and it was not on the bill, so unfortunately it wasn't done. Is this part of 60k service?

No, because Porsche still thinks the ATF is good for 90K, which is idiotic, but there you are. You missed a truly golden opportunity to drain the trans and the converter while it was out, the only time that can be done; and you would have ended up with a completely fresh system.

The Tip should relearn all on its own, the only thing a PST II or PIWIS can do is reinstall the original software, it cannot "force" the gearbox controller to do anyting.

Figures, day late and a dollar short...story of my life.

I wouldn't worry too much about the missed opportunity. At 60k the ATF is not poison! You can do a flush if you like and you will change 75% (not an accurate figure) of the stuff. As for the shift points, it may or may not adapt to your preferences. But, you can always excercise your thumbs! ;)
