Funny electrical issue

Hello Porsche people,

I'm new to your world. Just bought a 98 Boxster. I know, should have read the reports before. I'm in now so it doesn't matter.

I do have a problem that is weird....

Sometimes when i start the vehicle the a/c fan does not come on and the windsheild wipers will not work. If I turn the iginition off and then restart sometimes the aforementioned accesories will work. Sometimes i have to take several tries before the A/C and Wipers will work.

Anyone have experience with this?

Looking forward to sharing my experiences with my first porsche boxster with all of you.

Regards

Hi,

Just another case of the infamous Ignition switch. When they go faulty, all sorts or weirdness occurs. You can get one on eBay and swap it out yourself. It attaches on the rear of the ignition lock under the dash. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

You can get the switch here for $8.

One thing you can do while waiting for your new switch to come in is make sure the key goes back to the "On" position after starting. The spring in the switch does not return the key all the way back so your accessories stay off because the car thinks it needs the power for starting.

Update.....

Dealer claims that there is now a revised switch available. Couldn't tell me what problem the revision addresses. cost is around ~120.00 cdn.

Anyone have a comment?
