Shifter slowly returns to center
Hi all. I'm new to this forum and my 986 Boxster S. Just brought home this week after it was built to F class PCA specs. Drove it one day at Limerock where it performed well.
Today I went to put in my short throw shifter and noticed the shifter returned very slowly to center when moving from side to side in neutral. This caused binding on 2-3 shift unless I take a significant pause in neutral before advanceing into 3rd gear. I put the old shifter back in and similar finding. I already disconnected the shft cable at the transmission and the cable and shifter feel fine. The lever on the transmission is also slow to return to center when moved manually when the cable is disconnected. I've been driving a 997 GT3 for the past few years. It springs quickly to center. I'm not sure if the slow centering is normal for a 986 Boxster S or if I have a wear issue inside the trans. Can someone who has a 986 Boxster S compare their shifter to mine? https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B61nPKLuDSp9SFdROUZmLV9yeUk |
Bump - I have the same issue. I replaced the shifter console with a 997 unit and changed the gear oil hoping that would fix it.
Now when the car is cold it is still very lazy to return to center. After things have warmed up it returns to center okay but is not snappy like I'm used to in other cars. |
I have just replaced my SSK in a 986 cradle with a complete 987 assembly. I found an appreciable difference in the spring load in the neutral gate with the new setup.YMMV.
