OEM manifold to midpipe gasket question
I sent my mid pipes out to be ceramic coated, and bought these gaskets for when I reinstall them. They look awfully thin and tiny, but they are the OEM Porsche gaskets. I guess this style is what came out when I installed the pipes the first time, but they are a lot different than what came with the mid pipes from top speed. Anything special to know about installing these, does it matter which way the raised circular flange on the gasket goes when I put them back on?

I had the same concerns as you I wish I could find some " conventional " thicker gaskets for both the header to head and the transition joint . Maybe these thin gaskets work but I would prefer something thicker that would compress as it seals .

Good to know, I got the part # from the pet for my year.
The top speed gaskets were thicker and compressed, I just checked them, when I removed the pipes one fell off in pieces. I don't think they ever leaked, but they are definitely single use... |
We have never had any problems with the factory thin stainless gaskets.

So to Steves original question does it matter how the raised portion of the thin gasket is installed ? Facing forward or facing rear word or it doesn't matter ?

I checked what I've got, and found OEM brands Elring and Victor-Reinz for the manifold-to-head and manifold-to-triangle flanges had similar, embossed 1-layer stainless steel construction:

If additional compliance were important, the gaskets could have been designed to use multiple layers, which is called multi-layer-steel (MLS) gasket. MLS gaskets are very effective for reliable head gasket seals. They can seal a lot of pressure, while maintaining compliance as the surfaces expand and contract through temperature changes. |
I've got the same manifold gaskets too but decided not to change the manifolds after all (too expensive to ceramic all my pieces including my spare manifolds) so leaving the originals on. If I ever get to where they don't keep.up with the efficiency codes I will swap then...

The Top Speed thicker gaskets are utter crap, I had the centre part of the gasket disintegrate and blow out after only a few months. The originals are perfect.

Getting ready to put my stuff all back together and the Porsche gaskets I got (99611111302) are too small, they must be for the 2.5 dang it... [edit: Some] of the parts sites don't seem to show a different gasket between 2.5 and 2.7/3.2. These are definitely smaller.
I'll hit O'Reilly tomorrow and get the aftermarket brand listed in the previous post... Edit: Looks like I should have ordered: 99611311300 - 2.7/3.2 99611111302 - 2.5 Oh well at least it was only about $1 each. |
996-113-113-00 are the larger gaskets, 996-111-113-02 are for the 2.5L.
