Another Wheel & Tire question - 2001 986 Base Model

I have a 2001 Boxster Base Model. Have a local set of Cayman wheels/tires and wondering if they will fit up safely without modification? I understand that Porsche beefed up supsension in 2000 but i would like to run without spacers. Thanks!

Fronts:

Rears:

265/40/18 tires

I've got a 01 S which should be the same wheel well configuration. Recommendations for 18" is:

Front: 225/40 18, 8j or 7.5J; Offset: 50mm
Rear: 265/35 18, 10J or 9J Offset: 47mm for 10j 52mm for 9j

Ive seen the official recommendation but didnt know if moving to this wheel/tire size was dangerous or would even work.

The OEM front tire diameter is 25" and that Cayman front tire is 25.4". I tried to run a 245/40/18 front once (25.7") diameter and it would not clear the front strut lower spring perch.

Even with the OEM diameter it is tight in front diameter wise (with stock struts, coilovers typically don't have as big of a lower spring perch), if the 25.4" fits it will be tight, you should test fit it to be sure.

Should be plenty of room in the back for that tire though.

Front & rear tires will fit fine on 986 wheels, don't know about the 987 offset wheels.

Rear tire is tall enough to have a noticeable loss of acceleration, unaceptable on a 2.7L 986

Well...then are there any more modern factory 18's that will fit up to a 986 nicely? I hate the 17" twist style that are on it now.

Tons of choices. Just make sure you get the right width, offset, and tire diameter for a great fit. Nothing looks worse than cool new wheels that don't fit right.

Your wheels' widths, offsets and tires' sizes would be identical to mine; I'm currently running 987 Boxster S' wheels on my base 2003 Boxster.

No spacers needed, no rubbing.
