Brake lights and parking brake indicator light not working
I went to put the top back up on my1999 Boxster and the top would not close. I noticed that the parking break indicator light would not illuminate when the break is applied. At the same time I noticed that all 3 break lights were not coming on when break pedal is depressed. I have been searching the internet and found articles related to the break pedal switch and the parking brake sensor switch.
My question is, are the break lights and parking break problem connected? I checked the fuses, for the top and for the break lights. All fuses are good. Any suggestions on what would be the cause of both problems. Thanks for any advice. |
Don't forget the parking brake needs to be engaged for the top to open or close.
That being said, perhaps there is a related switch that is broke if the brake IS engaged. All your tail lights being out at once makes me want to check the fuses first. Perhaps the top has a fuse out as well. (You already checked) Next I would check the wire harnesses properly seated connectors and then for chaffed through areas or signs of rodent chewing. I think what the parking break and the regular brakes have in common is the computer so make sure all the plugs are seated properly. If corrosion is a possibility (always even in the trunk) then removing and repluging the wire harnesses into the computer in the trunk might help flesh out that possibility. |
Thanks for the response.
I removed the break light switch at the pedal. The plunger seemed a little rough and sticky when depressed. I put a jumper wire on the break light wiring at the pedal and the lights work. Need to get a new switch. I'll check out the parking brake sensor switch next. I rarely drive my Boxster, a weekend driver, the break light could have been out for a while. Just noticed them because of the top not working. |
