986 Boxster - swap radio & climate positions

Hi Guys,

We are in the UK & have an 04 986 Anni in Cocoa, that has the lower centre console delete from factory. I cannot find anywhere to buy the lower console in Cocoa so this is a non starter.

So, quick question - I have just bought an Alpine motorised screen head unit which I want to fit. If I replace the radio as is, I end up blocking access to the heater controls, so was just wondering if anyone has managed just to swap the radio & climate positions, is this possible?

Cheers, Shane

Is this what you are looking for? It is the trim piece for the heater controls once relocated to the lower position, I believe it is a Porsche part # so maybe you can order it from your local dealer in the UK

Hi,

Unfortunately not. I don't have the lower centre console as ours was ordered with the lower console delete, so I only have the dash positions available. It is these two I want to swap around if that makes sense.

Thanks for the post though, appreciate it.

Cheers

I don't think it'll work 'out the box', if you take a look at the two slots e.g http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/-swAAOSwTA9X4e51/s-l1600.jpg you can see there's only screw mounts on the top slot which the retaning rails for the climate controls fit into. Also behind that in the metalwork there's a bracket for the radio to rest on in the lower slot. You could probably hack up a solution but it'd be a bit of work.

However I can only speak about the setup on my early car, it's possible it's completely different on your later one? The whole thing comes apart pretty easy, you should just pop the bits out and take a closer look.

What about installing one of these "chassis" behind there and then you can manipulate the positions. These are available at all of your radio shops
