windows keep dropping even though top is not being moved

Hi, I'm sure the answer is on here somewhere, but I can't find it.

The windows keep dropping on my 99 just as if I were lowering or raising the soft top. The bigger issue is that they won't go the rest of the way back up. I had been able to just cycle the top and then they'd go up, but now they are stuck down a couple of inches and we're due for rain today!

In another thread I mentioned the issue and someone said it was a faulty micro switch, but I can't find any more info. When I search I keep finding threads about the windows not dropping when opening/closing the door, which isn't my issue.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

The microswitch is in the panel at the top middle of the windscreen which the top clips into when closed. The hook at the front of the top presses the switch in so the car knows it's closed. Pretty easy to take off, just a couple of torx screws hidden under the plastic alien eyes (that pop out with a screwdriver). Blasting it with contact cleaner might help? Or just get a new/second hand switch and swap it.

This might help : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIQuDmgMzAo

That helps showing where it is, but not necessarily if you can repair it or if it needs replacing. Off to investigate. In the short term though I found slamming the catch home helps.

Mine occasionally does that and I open the latch and push the sensor in with my finger and activate the windows all the way up once, let them resettle to half open then relatch the top and they close properly every time.

Fixed!!!! The unit was loose. Re-seated the star washer and tightened up both Torx screws, they were loose and it all works again. Cheap fix.
