Name that Noise!
 

Hey guys....uploaded a short (30 second) vid clip of my intense Boxster whine. Take a listen - suggestions on what it is are very welcome.

Occurs at idle and low speeds, louder when you give it some gas. Goes away at higher rpms and gone completely at higher speeds.

Thoughts? Thanks guys!

Buy a better camera. Sound quality is really bad.

It's a 2011 car with PDK, right?

Seems to be very loud even at low revs, is it?

Can you locate where the noise is coming from?

Did you let the engine run without wedge-ribbed belt. Was the noise also there?

Power steering
 

Ended up being a near empty power steering system. Added some in and presto, noise gone. Have never noticed anything leaking, but maybe a small seep is happening. Going to have to investigate a bit more, but at least we fixed the immediate need.
And hey, that was the first time I saw the engine on my 987!
