2001 Boxster S - I've lost 5th Gear!?!?!
Question about clutches and gears. I just replaced my clutch, throw out bearing, etc about a month ago. It has been driving great since, but today it gets stuck in 5th gear. It didn't start acting weird or anything, just gets stuck. All other gears seem fine, including 6th.
When it's in 5th gear, it's very tough to get out of gear. And grinds to get it out. Anyone know what's going on? |
Hello,
did you bleed the clutch system (valve) after you've replaced the clutch? Regards, Markus |

I called him this morning and he was wondering about a loose cable/connection? I'm taking it in on Friday, but any info or help prior is appreciated. Thanks |
Hello,
on a 6-speed 2001 Boxster S the forward gears are all engaged by one cable. The reverse gear is engaged by another cable. That means if the cable and the shifter mechanism is OK, all gears should work. I asked the clutch bleeding question, because if the clutch doesn't separate 100% that might cause gears to get out easily. But in general that also won't effect only one gear. So the problem here is, that only one gear is affected, and i fear that is a gearbox problem. But check shifter mechanism and gear cables first. Regards, Markus |
