Low beams, wipers, heated seats don't work, stall it and they do!
 

Hello!

Proud new owner of a 2000 Boxster. I bought it as a fixer upper as I do all my own mechanical work and it was a steal. It does have a few issues however. Besides some simple non-mechanical things like no floor mats and no ash tray cover it has this...

The following is not working:

The wipers, the heated seats, low beams, and the high beams will turn on with a pull but will not stay on with a push?

Some of these sound easy enough to fix such as a headlight switch right?

Except... if you stall the car they ALL work. Perfectly. My brother did this on a little drive I let him take and he let me know when he got back, I decided to experiment with it, easily enough done and sure enough EVERY time you stall it they will start working.

Any thoughts!!!

P.S. Great community on here! I have a BMW M5 and it is always amazing to come to another forum that is just as informative and helpful :)

I would start with the ignition switch it can cause all kinds of unusual electrical problems, my second thought would be some kind of grounding issue, the fuses or the relays. Have you checked the fuses? If it isn't the ignition switch you will need to investigate each individual issues in more depth. Also, the headlight switch is a common failure and fairly easy to replace.

Stall state is the same as having the in the ignition to ACC/On position with the engine off, right?

Or does it literally only work properly after having been actually stalled?

Yeah, I didn't disconnect the battery which probably saved 5-10 minutes, but not very smart. :eek:

Ignition switch was the answer! Thanks guys!
