Boxster Whine

Hey guys....my Box has always had a very slight whine to it - but lately that has grown and gotten loud, at times. Don't notice it at idle - but as soon as you feed some gas, it shows up loud and proud. Power steering maybe? I can't quite figure where the sound is coming from.
The sound is very similar to the youtube video below - but more pronounced as you press the accelerator, either stationary or moving.
Thanks!

If it varies with RPM, maybe your accessory belt?

or idler bearings
Remove the serp belt and run it briefly to listen. If no noise check each idler+tensioner bearing and alternator .
Pelican has a good diy on this

Hello Giller,

the noise you hear in the video directly after startup is the SAI. But that doesn't change frequency if you hit the gas pedal.

As Gelbster said, remove the panel behind the seats and start the engine (2011 987 II has this also). Maybe you can locate the noise immediately. If not, remove the v-rib belt and check every component.

Also you can run the engine for a short time without v-rib belt just to check if the noise is gone with no v-rib belt. So it will be caused by something else.

The noise can also be caused by the v-rib belt itself. So check it for wearing signs. If it is weared, replace it. You can also clean the belt and components. The v-rib belt and all belt pulleys have to be clean. Don't use any oils like WD40. Everything has to be oil free.

Regards, Markus
