cost of repair?

I just had my serpentine belt and spark plugs changed. $300 labor. Does that seem about right? Thank you guys for your thoughts!

Can't say... I changed my plugs in 1 1/2 hours, all in, and had the serpent belt swapped in a half hour, start to finish.
At that rate, we'd be talking $150/hour.

embryoguy@mac.com 08-08-2016 12:50 PM

well, you didn't take breaks etc lol yeah Their rate is 90$. I guess 3 something hrs is not too unreasonable.

embryoguy@mac.com 08-08-2016 12:55 PM

I assume your a weekend mechanic so I would hope they would be faster then you are at fixing things :)

Did the $300 include the parts? If yes then the repair was probably 2+hours.

$300 labor, 125$ parts (oem plugs, tubes, engine air filter), I supplied serpentine belt.
$25 tax :)

450$ total.

AHH HA!!! You didn't mention the tubes were changed in the first post. With that also being done then $300.00 is reasonable. ;)

embryoguy@mac.com 08-08-2016 02:09 PM

oh is the tubes that difficult to change out also? ok Thanks makes me feel better :)

johnsjmc 08-08-2016 03:37 PM

changing the tubes would easily add an hour to a plug change

embryoguy@mac.com 08-08-2016 08:14 PM

well don't you always change out the tubes when doing the spark plugs? i assume they go hand n hand.... thanks guys for thoughts.

Steve Tinker 08-08-2016 09:58 PM

The tubes only need replacing if the 2 x rubber O rings (located at the top and bottom of the tubes) are leaking. They can sometimes be difficult to remove and some have broken due to the plastic tube being brittle.

I was at 67K so I just had them replaced anyway. Also had cracks in my serpentine belt. Thanks for all your thoughts guys! very much appreicated.
