ECU 9 Pin Connectors

The ECU for my 2000 Boxster has two 9 pin connectors -- one on the top and one on the bottom of the connector array. The 9 pin cables going to the ECU are gray and black. When disconnecting, I marked the gray as going to the top but am questioning that now. Which goes to the top of the ECU?
