no drive after clutch job

Just finished buttoning up after checking the IMS and clutch. I changed pilot bearing, release fork and release bearing. I received the updated clutch fork and pivot pin.

Now there is no drive in any gear. Could it be the release fork is keeping the clutch partially depressed?

Is there drop in rpms when you let the clutch out in gear?

Guessing you got the wrong pivot pin, did it come from Pelican? Do you have the packaging with part number? If that's not the problem guessing improper fork install.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I got these parts from my local dealer:
Release bearing: 012141165E
Fork: 997 116 712 01
Ball pin: 996 116 716 02
Clip: 996 116 741 00
Seal: 996 116 743 00

Did you give them your VIN ID number?

Is the problem that the clutch is slipping with the pedal released? Or is the problem that you can't get the car into gear?

If the pedal is slipping, there isn't proper clamping force on the clutch disk, because for some reason the pressure plate diaphragm isn't completely unloaded. You may have installed the wrong part, as people have suggested, or installed the parts incorrectly. The release bearing can be tricky to seat on the release fork sometimes. Or, less likely, the disk has contamination (oil) on it. You most likely have to take the car apart again to resolve this issue.

However, if you can't get the car into gear, the clutch isn't releasing all the way. Most likely cause is that there is air in the hydraulic system. Try bleeding the slave cylinder. Hopefully this is the issue!

Thanks guys.
This car has been built up from someones leftower parts. No point in providing the vin.

I can easily select gears.
There is no connection to the engine at all. The drive shafts don't even turn with the car in the air and no wheels attatched.

Can you turn the wheels?

You have to take it all apart again to check the clutch.

Pulled the tranny and checked this afternoon. The 997 clutch fork catches on the topmost screw holding the guide tube. This keeps the fork from retracting fully.

The upgraded parts do not fit my transmission and the old fork is NLA as far as I can tell.

A "997" shift fork sounds incorrect for a 5-speed transmission. Do you have the 5-speed, or a 6-speed?

FYI, below are the shift fork and related components I have lined up for the next clutch job on my 2001 5-speed. Part numbers don't match yours, which make me think maybe yours are for 6-speed. Part number of the shift fork, for example, is "012 141 719 E".

You can consult the Porsche parts catalog online to determine the correct parts. Here is the one that I use, although it is for US-spec Boxsters so you may need to locate the European counterpart catalog for your application (seeing you are not in the US): http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/986_USA_KATALOG.pdf

If you want someone else to do the parts research for you, you need to be more forthcoming regarding the specifications of the engine, transmission, model year, etc that are involved. The more information, the better. (Sort of a "help us help you" deal.)

Best of luck!

Thanks.
I must have missed this critical piece of information when I found the part numbers. I did not use the PET since the TSB included all the part numbers. I found the parts numbers from an excerpt of the TSB in a forum post. I should have checked more carefully.

Glad we were able to figure it out! Best of luck getting it back up and running. :)
