Engine stand options ??
 

Ok, I need to pull the M96 from my 996 so I can remove the heads (oil in coolant, traces of coolant in oil).
What are the pros/cons of the stands out there??? I'm not looking for a hoist, just a stand. I've seen the Harbor Freight units @ <$60 and others at >$300. Hopefully I'll only need to use this once for a couple of months.

I've used the cheap Harbor Freight one for 2 engine rebuilds. I've also just added 6 washer on the bolts to allow more space on the rear of the engine.

Any stand should work, but the main consideration is stabilizing it while torqueing the head bolts & ease of bolting the case to the stand.

JFro, is there a posibility that your heat exchanger (oil cooler), failed?

That's a possibility, along with the AOS leaking oil into its coolant line, but those are long shots. It's probably either a head gasket or cracked head. No matter what, it looks like the engine is coming out of the car. :mad:
