FVD Brombacher "Sound Version" muffler installed....Wow!!!
I own a 2004 Boxster S 50 Years of 550 Spyder Edition and wanted a more enthusiastic exhaust note.
I'm almost 50 years old. I didn't want a Fast & Furious buzz bomb. I own a 1990 Mazda Miata and have installed eight different exhaust systems on her over the past 20 years. It's hard to get an exhaust right. The car has the OEM headers and cats and all plumbing ahead of the muffler. I ONLY changed the muffler. The FVD Brombacher "Sound Version" muffler is absolutely PERFECT. I am shocked at how perfect it is. It is quiet, with ZERO drone when you are just cruising around, yet it sounds like you are Michael Delany in his 917 on the Mulsanne when you get hard on it. Amazing. It's THE perfect street muffler. If you want the perfect muffler for your 986 and you want it to be fun, exotic, yet every day livable, just buy this muffler. It's amazing. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1466823902.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1466823926.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1466823963.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1466823997.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1466824020.jpghttp://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1466824062.jpg |
Looks nice how much does it weigh ? Where did you purchase from ? How much if you don't mind me asking ?

Nice! Anyway possible to retain the over-under tailpipe that's unique to the SE? Looks great tho...

Answers to all the questions here....
Here's the link to the place I bought it from:
http://www.fvd.de/us/en/Porsche-0/2_7__180_kW-13-41/-/-/item/item_details/VID_22868761-VCD_80019926-gid_30-sort_4-display_50-item_BES98605000S/Tuning_-_Exhaust_-_Mufflers_BES98605000S_Sport_Muffler_`Brombacher`_ 986_S_Boxster__Sound_Version__Stainless_Steel__2x9 0mm.html Call them on the phone and ask for "Rhonda", she's a Porsche owner and an expert and can assist you with a discount and will take care of everything for you. The link has the weight listed and all the particulars. As far as the unique to my SE exhaust tip, which sells for $550 new from Porsche, the only way to keep it with this muffler would be to cut off the tips and figure out a way to attach the SE tip to the muffler body. I looked at buying a Dansk muffler that looks similar to this FVD one, but has the OEM '03-'04 removable tips so that I could retain my SE tip, but in the end, the performance reports about this FVD muffler swayed me to give up my SE tips for the performance of this FVD. I'm glad I did. This FVD Brombacher "Sound Version" muffler is absolutely amazing. So, the SE tip is going up on my Porsche tribute wall in the garage. I will keep the OEM muffler and the tip for my estate to sell with the car when I die. I OK with the new look. It is actually a "meaner" look. The tips have turned gold after one day of driving. I just polished them again this morning and I like them. They stick out a tiny bit further than the bumper and they give the car a bit of a "Bad-Ass" look. A part of me loves the SE tip, but a part of me loves these FVD tips. Again, the performance is worth the aesthetic sacrifice. Cheers. |
For those of you not familiar.....
.....with the 550 Special Edition exhaust tip, here are some photos:

I think the dual tips on the new muffler look WAY better. The website says it weighs 23lbs, so that is definitely lighter than stock. It is a little expensive though. I'd love to hear some sound clips.

Yes...
....so just picking it up and picking up the OEM side by side, it is obviously lighter.
The FVD one is T316 Stainless, the OEM one is T304 Stainless. So, the higher quality alloy FVD is polished, shiny, will stay that way, and turns a golden color after heat cycling. So, now, I have a GOLD colored dual, fat, tips, sticking out further from the bumper, and looking totally ********************in'. My "Traditional" car guy heart LOVES the SE factory tips, being the wonderful homage to the James Dean 550 Spyder. BUT, this dual, GOLD.....did I mention they turned GOLD?.....tips look SPECTACULAR! I'm a happy man. Sound clips, yes. The trouble with sound clips is getting an accurate recording. I can say this with authority: It sounds EXACTLY like the 987 version in these two You Tube Video produced by FVD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQCZLEVIjQ0 This second link includes video from inside the car. And it is also exactly as my 986: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9FXr7TovD4 I'm surprised at how my 986 sounds like this 987. Just buy this muffler. It's worth every penny. |
oh, Yes..!
I believe that the FVD exhaust is manufactured by SpeedArt in Germany, my car has one of the SpeedArt (sport version) that where part of group buy at the Cayman club a few years ago.
If I had to buy another one, I would buy the same one as the quality and sound are awesome, with no drone whatsoever. Highly recommended :) |
Did I mention....
.....that the tips turned GOLD?
They are GOLD now. GOLD! |

Sunday project....
....so I mounted the OEM Special Edition exhaust tip on my garage wall.
The muffler will be sealed up and put away. I am happy with my decision to replace the muffler, and having the SE tip on the wall gives me a nice fuzzy feeling. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1466981553.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1466981577.jpg |
