Freaky fogs

Suddenly I can no longer turn off my fog lights while my car is running (02 S). I've been on this forum long enough to suspect the ignition switch. I often read that it's cheap enough and unreliable enough that some people carry a spare. My question, if you don't mind spending money, is there a higher quality unit available?

Thanks,
Chris

They turn off when you shut the car off ?
It seems like there is short to ground somewhere in the fog light circuit, check the wires and connections first.
Can be the foglight switch too.
I don't see how the ignition switch would affect foglights this way.

Ben.

I left out part of the story. Since I installed Fred's projectors, I have replaced the light switch. Still the lights often are dim until RPM's increase the first time.

I don't believe there's a better unit, but buying the vw branded one can save you a bit. I'd also be suspect of a grounding issue though.

Still no luck. Key goes on, lights come on and stay on until the key goes off. Can't see anything loose. I'm hesitant to take it to the dealer, since I have my projectors but this is driving me crazy.

Well, if no one has any more ideas, I guess I'll take it in.

I had weird problems with my lights once. Fogs were ridiculously dim, but headlights were very bright. Turns out that the plugs on the back of the lamps just needed cleaning. I know, weird.

Could you install a used ignition switch, just to see if it fixes the problem? If it doesn't you could always sell it on.

Not a problem if it fixes it id just leave it. If it goes again in the future you know you won't waste money buying a new part.

Let us know what happens!
