Wacky Camshaft Deviation Values. Any Ideas?
 

Just for giggles, we hooked up our MacTools x431 reader to take a peek at camshaft deviation values. Here's what we saw:

Vehicle is a 2000 base 2.7L. Engine runs, revs, and idles beautifully. No CEL. No codes.

I suspect it's a code reader issue. I've done a forum search and found that some engines do not have a bank 2 sensor, but don't think that's the case here.

It is ok up to 6°

Your deviation for bank 2 seems a little off... :rolleyes:

Crisis averted. Before I totally FREAKED out, we borrowed an older Autel scanner and actually got some fairly normal readings: 3.53 for bank 1 and 5.54 for bank 2.

So much for that $4k Mac Tools scanner. That said, looks like I'll be doing a teardown to replace the pads soon....:(

Don't sweat those deviations. You're still within spec. Doing the pads is easy with the engine out of the car. With the motor still in, it's certainly more challenging. In my opinion, a dedicated tool like the Durametric takes a lot of guesswork out of Porsche diagnostics.
