The MAF could be bad or it could be something else (fuel pump comes to mind).

Is the faulty operation related to a warm/hot engine? Does it do this when completely cold?

Is the check engine light (CEL) on?

Any other symptoms?

Ive had this same issue on a BMW and it was MAF, weather its the same on a boxster??, they do use the same family of ECU but

What did you clean it with?

Checked all connections?

Its also possible that you have an intermittent open, fault to ground or + with the MAF or throttle body sensors.

I'm pretty sure it would be indicated in the MAF codes.

What codes are you getting?

You did not mention the year and model as some have an idle sensor in the throttle body that can go bad as well.

I had the odd occurance of a paper part sticker pieces flying around in my intake box behind the filter which was creating havoc with turbulence and particles upstream of the MAF. I seem to recal there was a screen in front of the MAF that had some sticker material caught on it.

If the MAF is not in clear clean air it will be nothing but problems.

I blew out the airbox and cleaned the MAF and MAF connector with CRC MAF cleaner and then all was well.

If you clean the MAF with other cleaners (Carb Cleaner) or compressed air you may damage it and it will not work right again.

Make sure your throttle body is firmly plugged into the socket wiring. I thought mine was, but would not rev past 1,300 rpm. Disconnected, and re plugged in.
