AOS Catch Can

Watched MotorWeek this week and there was a segment on installing AOS catch cans.
I see Moroso has a Universal version.
I'm wondering if this could be installed on a 986 between AOS and TB?
Would there be any real benefits?
Could it help if an AOS goes bad preventing the Intake from getting flooded with oil?
I know there are some DIYs on here related

Catch Can/Oil Separator | MotorWeek

They also did a review of the Cayman GT4

Did you understand how an AOS works?

I have a general understanding.
My thought was rather then just directly feeding the AOS into the TB, the catch can adds another layer to keeping oil mist out of the intake

I would be concerned this intermediate devise might hurt the operation of the AOS in general

This is exactly what I've been running on my car for 40K & 5 years and it does work. I know, I know, the purists are shaking their heads and calling me a blasphemer. I wouldn't do this to any car that mattered (including my 996). But my 986 is a racecar & test mule, and no one else ever will ever have to work on this car until I'm dead. If you are in the same boat, go for it. Otherwise, stick with the factory stuff.

Hi,

the catch can showed in the video is a kind of an AOS, but it works different.

The 986 doesn't have DFI nor does it have low friction piston rings.

If you track the car, you can think of a smart solution like j.fro did. But if you don't track the car and if your AOS is working properly, i think there is no need for an additional catch can.

Also please consider that the line between the TB and the AOS is a negative pressure line. So the solution has to be 100% leakproof. Also the catch can system is not allowed to influence the negative pressure value. That will lead to engine problems.

And the catch can should be servicable easy - which isn't that easy to implement, because of the available space.

As a summary: check you AOS regularly and clean the TB maybe every 60 K miles and everything will be fine.

Regards, Markus

Both the M96 and M97 engines run extremely low tension piston rings.

A fellow contributor, "Stelan" has fitted an alternative to the AOS to his car. You might invite him to comment?
