Canadians - where to get tires?

Finding my Conti 3's are generating a ton of road noise lately - looking to put some new rubber on (probs some Pirelli P7s - good performance, life and low noise).

Would you trust Canadian Tire to put them onto your P car? Can they handle that simple job, or would you take it to a Porsche specialist?

Thanks eh!

No Canadian tire! I use a place that just does tire and alignements/suspension/brakes. There pricing works out almost as good as tire rack when you take the whole price into consideration with exchange, shipping, and installation. The local Indy is next door and sends that work there. Look around your area for a shop like that.

No.
Wiper blades, maybe.

I've been a customer at Dettmer Tire in Kitchener for many years. They put a set of Pilot Super Sports on my Boxster in October just before hibernation.
Dave and his crew always do first class work.
Hands down, nobody else.

I had Cambodian Tire (Moncton) put a set of Cooper Zeon RS3-A on the front and the wheel balance was crap. I ended up paying for Road Force balancing and it was golden to well above legal speeds. Find a proper tire shop if you want halfway decent quality work.

tires

I just bought Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. There a new tread design. They remind me of RA1`s. $ 889.00 all in.I live in Kingston and bought them from the Fielding Tire. Too early and cold for my opinion.

I'm shopping right now. Checked out Kal Tire, Fountain Tire, Sturgeon Tire, a couple of local small garages and all seem to be around the same price point. Steering towards Goodyear F1 or the BF Goodrich g Force or maybe the Hancook V12. I'm not tracking my car so my main need is a good all around tire for dry as well as rain since I'm planning an extended west coast trip this summer.

I'll make my decision next week when the weather improves.

I bought my tires (Hankook V12's) where I found the best deal, and then took them to the Porsche dealership to have them installed and road force balanced. As usual, the service at the dealer was excellent and reasonably priced. I love dealing with these people. Every time I go there they find some way to go above and beyond and exceed my expectations.

Paul, you might want to call Glen at Ultimate Auto on Scurfield for a price on tires. Then talk to Madison about the install.

Hi Giller,

There are some good tire shops in Toronto. I have used simply tire in the past.

With my busy family schedule, I tried using PMC tire from quebec. Great prices. They will likely have something for your boxster there. Tires arrived within 2 days. You will need to find someone to mount them for you. Kijiji may help, or if you know someone in Listowel.

I am currently running Hankook V12's of varying vintages.... no complaints with respect to tire noise. My fronts seem to last forever, I've have gone through a few sets of rears, but that seems to have fixed itself after a 4 wheel alignment.

My 2001S is going to be 15 yrs old this year, so noise and rattles are a given unfortunately.

You may see a black '01S with license plate THXHONEY in Listowel in the summer. That's me. I'm there 2-3 days per week.

Yep.

I purchased the car from a P-car dealer in Chicago in June 2009. At the time, our kids were almost 4 and 6.5 yrs old. Not the ideal vehicle for some needing car seats and booster seats.

Kids are getting older now, and wife and I may go on more dinner dates with it moving forward.

Cool Tires

Giller,
I would not bring my P-Car to Cdn Tire. Some have the latest in tire equipment but the problem is the Tire person that will work on your car, just too much of a risk.. I had a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports installed for me by a Tire shop in Scarborough in the summer of 2014 and am quite happy with the install and of course the tires!
Quiet and responsive and no vibration at all..
You can do a bit of research, but i would'nt take any of my cars to Cdn.Tire.. Sorry...

I'll keep my eyes open for you! And if you are ever up for a run, let me know. Boxstersteve and I try to get out once and a while - plus we usually join up for a few PCA runs as well.

My boxster is 15 yrs old now. I think this summer I'm concentrating on maintenance as my pcar experience. Diy in my garage. I got a 2 post lift a few yrs ago, since then I try to DIY most things. I've got serpentine belt, water pump, motor mount on the list as well as the control arms in the rear, contemplating if I need to do the idler pulleys.

Also contemplating the ims. I've got a floor tranny jack, just need to modify it for my lift.

I'm in Heidelberg, just outside Waterloo.

Petee,
PM me if you'd like a hand. I'm close by in Laurelwood, and I'm presently doing a slow motion DIY 100k service before the Box comes out to play.
