Car stuck on mountain missing (ignition missing)
 

Last fall I took my car to our mountain house to store it in the garage over the winter. About half way there (still around sea level) it started to mis. Unfortunately it was late, I was at the foot of the mountains and therefore had no service, I was forced to drive it to the house. As long as I kept it at around 4,000 rpm it didn't miss but was low on power. I think it's running lean, it used very little fuel on the way up. So now I have a car stuck on the mountain with no shops for hundreds of miles. I'd like to take a stab at fixing it and driving it home. At first I thought it was the afm but the un-plunging afm test turned up nothing (I also replaced it 3 years ago). The symptoms do seem similar to what I experianced last time it failed. Could it be O2 sensors? What do you guys think?

I guess you might start with the obvious: check the plugs for tightness, check the coil packs for cracks. Take a can of throttle body cleaner and spray around fittings with the motor running to check for vacuum leaks. Check for codes.

I was going to suggest unplugging the MAF but it sounds like that was the first thing you checked already. I've got an extra MAF from a 2000S (the newer one) that was working but I replaced it pre-emptively - If it is a match for your MAF I could ship it to you to see if it helps?

Try disconnecting the battery so the computer resets to default, then unplug the maf. Also, have a look at the air filter and hoses running from the box to the throttlebody. What you are describing is sounding like an air intake problem... Unless the fuel pump is going bad.
