987 Cat back exhaust; excess heat on the rear shocks?
 

Just installed a cat back exhaust on my 2007 Cayman S.
The factory pipe has a perforated heat shield. Is there enough heat off the pipe to cause concern for the rear shock?

Before I installed the SpeedArt cat back, I wrapped the pipes that pass right next to the bottom of the struts for the same reason..

When I put on my cat delete pipes I used a couple of these to keep the heat off the driveshaft rubber boots. They seem to work - I have waved my hand around the hot pipes and the seem to soak/ redirect a lot of the heat away. Of course the pipes don't get as hot as the cats did.

Its not the shock that suffers heat stress but the inner rubber drive shaft boots - especially on the S models.
Mine lasted +/- 15,000 km before the rubber hardened and split....
Wrapping them is one way to reduce the heat buildup, but by far the best is to have the pipes ceramic coated both internally and externally.
