Rad fan resistor fix

So both my rad fans wouldn't run on low speed due to the resistors being knackered.

I simply refused to pay £67 per side to solve the issue so decided to find an alternative way to fix them.

After a bit of looking around I bought a couple of high quality resistors and made up my own harness. Removed the old resistors today and fitted my new harnesses whilst I was fitting new condensers and I now have fully working rad fans again with two speeds :)

Grand total cost? £4.62 :)

I'm going to run the car for a bit and if I don't get any issues I will consider making up kits for people for a small fee if there's enough interest :)

The new resistors I have used are far superior to the factory ones and they also have a large heat sink on them which should help stop them from dying as easily as the standard ones.

Great job! Many of us have done the same and its not very hard.

Hopefully others will see this post in the future and be inspired to DIY also!

I am looking for some details on an alternative radiator fan resistor to the expensive OEM version.

Can anyone provide some details for an alternative resistor? Source? Part Number? Specs?

Thanks

What spec are the resistors?

Here is an interesting ,related thread for older P-Cars that gives the basic elements of the discussion

A thermo switch seems like a good addition?

Hi Sideways Steve,
I too live near Glasgow, are you able to give me some more feedback on how your resistors performed long term as I'm having a problem with mine and I'd like to do a fix.
Cheers
