clutch replacement parts
So I'm about to swap my clutch, and till now I bought the clutch 3 piece kit, flywheel, and new bolts for clutch and flywheel. My mechanic also suggested I get the fork as well, so I went online to order the fork and found much more that could be replaced,including: Flywheel spigot bearing,clutch fork pivot, retaining spring for clutch release,clutch fork retainer clamp,leaf spring for clutch release lever,clutch release lever ball pin,....etc.
So to cut a long story short, does anyone have any experience with a base box clutch replacement, and which other parts i will REALLY need to swap,apart from the 3 piece kit, flywheel and bolts? Thanks |
You should also replace the throw out bearing, and the pilot bearing (I think you call it the spigot bearing). The fork and fork pivot only need to be replaced if they show signs of wear, which is infrequent at best. As your AOS is completely exposed when the gear box is out, it is a 15 min. job to change that as well.

I already changed the aos 2 years ago. I dont think it needs changing again as I don't use the car much. Is there a sure way to tell if it needs changing?

If you switch to the newer style 987 lever you need all the rest of those parts too. The pivot ball is a different height and the method of retaining it all together is different.
The "upgrade" addresses some owner complaints about a squeaky type noise coming from the clutch mechanism. If no noise or you don't care, the old lever is fine. |
I'm almost done doing the clutch job on my '99 Boxster
Clutch stuff: - rear main seal - flywheel - flywheel bolts - flywheel pilot bearing (included with the new flywheel) - clutch - pressure plate - pressure plate bolts - release bearing - transmission output shaft guide tube (mine came with the new seal installed) - shift fork - shift fork ball pin - shift fork retaining spring - exhaust flange gaskets (I removed my exhaust as one piece by undoing it from the exhaust manifolds) - exhaust flange nuts and bolts - gear oil While I was in there stuff: - air/oil separator - IMS bearing kit from Pelican parts - 2 timing chain tensioner washers - 2 camshaft end plugs - coolant expansion tank While i was around there stuff: - spark plug tubes - spark plugs - air filter - cabin air filter - rear drop links - clutch slave cylinder - rear stabilizer bar bushings - oil filter / drain plug washer - push rivets for rear spoiler |

It added up to around $1400. this includes the used set of IMS bearing tools I bought off eBay.
