Dash lights on startup?

Hi all i have a daft question, when you first turn on the ignition should the check engine light come on then go off in a 986 boxster?

I know i have a bad parking light bulb but before i pull the cluster out i want to check i dont also need to buy a bulb for the cel as well.

I know in my mini it comes on briefly before you start the car but ive also had other cars where it doesnt come on at all until thete is an issue.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah it should come on when you turn the key to run but once started its supposed to disappear. Unless you have one of many "problems" the car detects.

I'd think there's a "bulb check" feature on all cars.

Check engine light seems too important to never have a check if the bulb's even working.

All of the dash cluster bulbs light up when starting the car as a bulb check. If you have one that does not light up, then you have a bad bulb or something is bad in the cluster

I don't recall if ones for things that you may not have such as PSM will light up or not. In any case, the CEL will light up when starting the car
