Loss of Day Time Running Lights

Hi there,

Have a 99 Boxster and my day time running lights have quit functioning.

Regular head lamps and marker lights all work just fine with the turn of the light switch. Fog and Rear Fog are also OK.

If anyone can lead me in a few directions to start hunting down the cause I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks

I would suspect the headlight switch.

You have day time running lamps in your 99?

They are std for cars in Canada

Try cleaning your headlight switch
Basicially remove it from the car and spray inside it anywhere yo can and down the shaft with contact or tuner cleaner. Then move it between all of the possible positions a bunch of times. Shake it out. Let it sit for a few minutes to let the cleaner evaporate and reconnect the switch and see if that fixed your problem

I just took my switch apart due to loss of litronics on both sides. I used a small screwdriver to seperate the two halves of the switch. Although the contacts didn't look bad, I cleaned everything with contact cleaner, pencill eraser and 320 grit sand paper.

All is working (at the moment).

you are a braver sole than me taking the switch apart

I had to replace my e-break handle the pot metal broke - is there a connection in their that I may have missed reconnecting - most DRLs are shut off when e break is engaged.
Is the Porsche set up the same way?

The Canadian cars have a relay for the DRLs and this may have failed. The relay is located with the other relays near the fuse panel, and I believe it is a large relay similar in size to the top rely.

Thanks J.Fro
