1997-99 2.5L tip into 2001 2.7L tip?
 

Hello guys,
I am wondering if the 2.5L auto out of a 1997-99 boxster would be a plug and play swap for a 2001 2.7l boxster base model. I have seen things on wikipedia and rennlist that suggest there are alot of cars that use the 5HP19FL transmission, however i am wondering if there is anything additional involved in doing this swap.
ECU re-program, torque converter compatibility, etc. I have heard that the gear ratios in the 2.5 are different, but would this require a ecu re-program? Any info would be appreciated as it is pretty rare to find a 2.7L auto for a good price.

Can't speak to this in detail, but FYI this swap wouldn't be legal in a lot of states (installing an older motor into a newer car). Might not be an issue in TX but could limit the ability to resell the car (if that's a thought).

Yes, it will work fine as a direct swap.

Ever since I almost bought (but didn't) an 01 with a bad Tip' I have been interested in this general topic. I have no first hand knowledge, so I when I say: "Yes, it will work fine as a direct swap", I'm actually making up stories and should not be trusted.

Paying particular attention to the differences in parts between the various ZF HP19FL part # (1060 030 __ ) as displayed in the table on page 4.

Then hit up the VW forums and Audi Forums for good measure. VW Passat Forums : Volkswagen Passat Forum has some pretty knowledgeable members. Just watch out for the BMW forums. They like to pretend they know stuff even though they are guessing.
...So yes, I'm sure it will work fine, plug-n-play. :D

I actually swapped in the 2.5 tip and it works like a CHARM!
Will post up documentation one day, but today is not the day :)
