Shifter cable popped out of bracket....

While at the Porscheplatz at COTA last weekend, one of the Boxster folks had his shifter cable pop out of its holding bracket and he couldn't get the shifter to move left and right in the gate.

We used the jack in the car and jacked up the car and simply pushed it back on with a finger in two seconds.

Is this a well known failure?

I'm new to the Boxster world, so finding our that I can be left stranded by such a simple failure is mind boggling to me.

Thoughts from the collective?

Thanks.

Common track failure, not sure about on the street. I use safety wire to back up the factory clips. Wire ties work well also.

Happened on the street..

....just as he arrived at COTA parking.

Very common issue at the track, never heard about it on the street. As Spendy said, some owners wire it in place.

I have never had this happen but it seems that once it does, the likelihood of recurrence is fairly high.

Had this happen after my clutch job. Used really fat tie wraps to secure both cables. Feels much better now.
