Hastings oil filters

I picked up a couple of Hastings oil filters on sale

Are they any good?

Yes. Same quality as Baldwin. But if you're talking about filters for your Boxster, the Hastings filter was likely purchased by Hastings/Baldwin from another filter manufacturer; I don't believe the company ever made the specific PN's for Boxsters.

OK, so they are the same as Baldwin. The question is are they any good?

They do have M96 filters. RockAuto has them for $5

Hell, they have Mahle and Mann for less than $8.00

Yes, Hastings is a good filter. Much better than the fram cheepo filters. Hastings is an old time brand that the real auto repair shops use, not a oil change for 19.99 use. Baldwin is a top name in diesel oil filters and fleet use. I use them on my Cummins.

Please refer to the 1st word in my response.

Sorry, I read that as you saying they were the same quality as Baldwin without qualifying if Baldwin was a good filter or not

Kind of like answering Yes, the car is Blue when asked if you like the color blue

Not really. You asked if Hastings is a quality filter. I answered yes. Perhaps you've never heard of Baldwin; it's the company's heavy duty brand, and Hastings is its light duty/automotive brand; Baldwin is generally better known than Hastings. In any case, the whole thing is a bit moot, as I've since confirmed that Hastings purchases this particular PN from another company, a practice that is common in the industry. It's presumably built to Hasting's specs, but it is not manufactured by Hastings/Baldwin.
