My old ones seemed fine so I trimmed them to fit the newer mount.

Tip of the week....change the mount if you have never done it!

i ordered a complete used engine mount system including everything today for 40 euros including shipping. Will invest in what rubber material was used for the side dampers. Don't believe that the material cost is over 2 euros for these dampers per pair.

You don't need a press to get the old insert out or press in the new one. Once the whole mount is out of the car, use a marker to make one or two refernence mark(s) of the inserts orientation within the mount. Transfer mark(s) to new insert by laying new insert on top of old. Place new insert in freezer.

Place the mount in a vice and use a hack saw to cut into the inner diameter of the old insert . The insert cuts easliy and without cutting any real worry of cutting to far and buggering up the mount. Take new insert out and use the vice to press the insert into the mount.

You do need a pretty good size vice to accomodate the width of the mount and the insert. Mine pressed in easily.

i've got my used engine mount today. I also ordered an after market Lemförder 987 engine mount and while comparing the mounts i found some interesting things.

My Box is a german 2003 S, which is the same as a 2004 US model.

First the rubber on the original 986 Porsche mount part no. 986.375.057.00 says 986 gelb (yellow) / 996 blau (blue). Comparing with spring color codes this seems to be the dampening factor.

On the other side there is a manufacture stamp that says LME 132608.

I put the screws in the new mount and connected it to the old mount. And there is an offset about 3 mm in height. So the new mount center is about 3 mm higher than original one. And i think that is good, because there are a lot of problems caused by slumped mounts. Hard to photograph.

The old side dampers seems to be used with slight modifications.

The new version sandwich dampers seems to be a lot thicker. Can somebody confirm that. Can someone measure the thickness. The old style ones have a thickness of 5 mm.

Nobody answered my question. So i do it myself. ;)

The old side dampers have a thickness of 5,25 mm.

The new side dampers have a thickness of 8,3 mm. Black rubber part is 4 mm. Vanilla rubber part is 4,3 mm. So the 987 dampers are a lot thicker.

PUR = Polyurethane
TE(PESTUR) = Polyesterurethane

First i was wondering in which direction i should to press in the new mount. But after some thinking i understood which direction i is right. You have to orientate on the rubber in the bearing.

Got a question via PN today considering the side dampers.

The black side of the side dampers go to the inside, yellow to outside. Black side is more stable and will take torsion forces if mount is twisted againt the mount holder.
