Custom magnaflow mufflers too much drone. Need help with ts bypass

Good afternoon, i recently did a muffler delete on my 99 2.5 and it was too loud so I ordered x2 magnflow #10415 mufflers and it definately sounds much smoother but too much drown on the hwy. I did some reading on the top speed cat bypass and saw that some people got reduced drone.. Just wanted to follow up with anyone that has experice with the bypass. Thank you!

Hey Keanu; Looks like you live in Good ol California and are subject to our smog laws. Your 99 only has 2 cats and must remain where they are in order to pass smog inspection. That eliminates the test pipe installation on your car, well legally anyway. You may have some luck with the clamps some have been having results with. This was the reason I went the way I did with my install of the 03S muffler on my 98. Good luck

if you don't want to touch the cats, use different mufflers.
I bet those magnaflows drone a lot. I did the same as you did but used turbo thrush mufflers....they have the short/small ones that fit...and no drone and sounded awesome.

Cat bypass won't fix the drone, sorry. Stock exhaust + PSE mod is the only way I know to get good sound and zero drone. All 2-can muffler setups just drone big time. It's a physics thing.

It's a physics thing for sure ...

From Porsche Boxster Story by Paul Frere ...

Quote:
The silencer is a double-skinned rustproof steel unit. It is rigidly bolted to the gearbox because the entire rubber mounted engine, gearbox and exhaust unit is used as a vibration damper for the entire car structure.

Topless,
A few years ago I bought the (sport) SpeedArt exhaust on a group buy at the Planet 9 site and it sounds awesome with zero drone..
No regrets whatsoever.

Will it work on 2003+ models?
I once tried to install a PSE but it wouldn't fit because of the rear bumper which has lower braces interfering with the pipes.

It's tight, but it was done also on 2003+ models over here in Germany. Has to be done very precise and with not too big diameter for the tubes.

Additional photos from a 2003+:

Markus

Was this a light weight 2-can exhaust as pictured in post #5, or the $2k rework of a stock exhaust? A very rare outcome for a 2-can system. 1/1000

Like this one?

The PSE mod can give the same results for about $200.

i believe it was 2 of these
http://www.amazon.com/Thrush-17702-Turbo-Muffler/dp/B00029WXMM/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1438560368&sr=1-1&keywords=thrush+turbo+17702

the muffler body length is 11 inches which was short enough to squeeze 2 in.....it really sounded awesome...ran it for about 2 years on my 01
