K&N / oil filters and MAF sensor

Recently I blew my Impreza engine because of a faulty MAF (Main AirFlow) sensor. The sensor gave a low voltage, so the ECU sees less air than actually comes in, so the ECU provides less fuel, result is a lean mixture, result is knock, result is a hole in piston (turbo engines are very sensitive to knock and air/fuel mixture)

Subaru says the K&N 57i (cone style) filter is the reason why the MAF failed. Oil from the filter polluted the MAF sensor. No warrenty whatsoever.

My BoxsterS is equipped with a K&N replacement filter, fitted by the dealer. He wouldn't fit a open style (57i) filter / induction kit in the warrenty period.

I'm a bit worried now, any suggestions / experiences ?

Wow,

I would get it in writing from your dealer that any engine failures resulting from the use of the installed filter will be covered by Porsche warranty. If not, I would take the filter out until your existing warranty expires.

my 2 cents
