A few questions - Clutch and Tick
Have a 99. Did a bunch of work on it over the winter - Have put on 3500 Km since that time.
Did - AOS, Coils, Boots, Plugs, Flywheel, Clutch, Water Pump, Belt Tension-er pulley, RMS and IMS. 2 things are happening now. One - When I use the clutch to slow down. Usually only when I go down into 2nd, If I am gentle with the clutch ( not sure how to describe it maybe ride it a bit) I can smell clutch plate burn. Seems only if I take my time in releasing the clutch - will smell it if I am slowly crawling along in traffic or if I am backing up onto my ramps. I do not remember the old clutch ever making any smell. Two - When I first fire the car up I hear 3-5 ticks - this is just after the engine sparks up to life. then it goes away. Car from then on sounds perfect. Any thoughts or ideas |
You are slipping the clutch. A big no no. Slowly and smoothly slip the clutch from a dead stop to launch. Never slip the clutch as you downshift to slow the car. You can eat up the clutch very quickly. Just rev match as yoj downshift and let the clutch out completely and let the motor compression slow the car.
I wouldnt worry about the ticks. |

It may just be me, but "Clutch and Tick" sounds like a stoner dynamic duo.

Good Ol' Clutch and Tick are from Colorado or BC I suspect.
Practicing the rev matching on the downshift. This is an art I see - feel like I never have driven a stick before. No more clutch smell - thanks again. |
