High Pitched Whining

I just bought a 2002 with 34,000 miles on it. It runs like a champ but there is a strange whining noise that sounds like it’s coming form the rear passenger side. It almost sounds like something rubbing on the tire, but everything looks okay in the wheel well. I only hear it when the car gets above 10 or 15 MPH, and goes away when slowing down below 10 or 15. Any ideas of what this could be?

PROBLEM: Whining noise coming from passenger seat.
SOLUTION: Tell passenger "no you can't drive it". Repeat as needed.

PROBLEM: Whining noise coming from behind passenger seat.
SOLUTION: Remind passenger that there is no "rear seat" - move them to front seat.

PROBLEM: High Pitched whining noise coming from passenger seat.
SOLUTION: Assure passenger that 156 MPH is the normal speed to merge on the freeway with a Boxster.

Whining sound

I have the same thing. It starts/stops at about 18 MPH and seems to go away (I think) at about 35 MPH. I'm going to have the wheel bearing checked. Did you find out what caused your noise?

Hi,

CV Joint? Though you don't hear of many troubles with them on a Boxster... Good Luck!

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
