Airbag light self-heal? Or something else?
Well, not really self heal. Let me explain.
My 99 Boxster had two issues I was hoping to fix yesterday, and I inadvertently apparently did something to a third issue.
I found a used stalk assembly with the magical 4th stalk, and followed one of the DIY guides on this forum to do the swap. This involves pulling the steering wheel, which of course means pulling the airbag. It also means disconnecting the battery. Between interruptions for other things, the battery wound up being disconnected for about 6 hours while I did the swap. So when I was finished:
The first two I was expecting, the airbag light going off was not expected. The airbag light is also not coming on as part of the starting procedure. If I turn my key to "run" but not to "start" I get the whole plethora of waring lights illuminated, but not the airbag light. Is this normal? Thanks in advance for your help! |
I wonder if there are still history codes for the airbag since you didnt clear them...regardless great to have the light off for sure!

Well, if all else fails, read the manual. According to the owners manual, not seeing the Airbag light come on during starting is not a good thing. It implies, but doesn't say outright, that the airbag system is probably inop when no light comes on.
Hoping the bulb just got disturbed while I had the cluster pulled. |
I haven't been able to shut off the airbag light by disconnecting the battery or using a obdII scanner. It's going to take a trip to the dealer or find someone who has a durametric scanner
