External Regulator for Alternator?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has used an external / stand alone regulator for their alternator. I'll be replacing the original BOSCH engine controller with a completely different ECU that no longer has field control for the original BOSCH alternator.

If anybody has ideas / suggestions / stories, I would very much appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Andy

I know it may sound stupid but i will ask. Why?

You can find the replacement regulator with new brushes for as low as $30. Why bother getting a alternate source for this item?

Is the field current still controlled by the original factory ECU?
