97 Boxster - Hood/Trunk levers locked ?
Hello folks,
I left the security system on over the winter and the battery is dead. I'm unable to get the hood open to get to the battery because the levers under the door seem to be locked down by the security/locking system. Hoping someone here can assist - dealer closed till Monday and I'd like to get it on the road tomorrow. Any assistance on how to open the hood to charge the battery would be much appreciated. Best, Marty |
Search on emergency hood release cable. There is better documentation on how to do it than I can write already on the board. There is a cable tucked up in the front fender well.

with a '97 which has manual f/trunk levers you can slide a very thin screwdriver b/w the levers and rotate the locking pin (white) to side releasing the levers...
Otherwise - try charging battery thru one of the cig lighter ports - use emergency release cable (check to see if routed to tow hook if not orig owner) Good luck :) |
hook up a charged battery to a cigarette lighter plug. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR. allow it to charge the system for a few hours. when the system is charged well enough to unlock the doors using the fob buttons pop the release. you will have charged the system through the fused circuit, so if you were to attempt to start it, it will pop the lighter fuse.

Big thanks guys!
Wife ended up handing me a honey-do list a mile long - unable to get to the car this weekend. I will give the above a try - thanks again! Best, Marty |
