Yet another oil filter question

Ok now, please be gentle with me. I am about to do my first oil change. Can someone tell me how to change the replaceable oil filter element? What’s the trick to this? I’ve read “oil” related threads until I’m blue in the butt but I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for and I know I read something about this a couple of months back; just can’t find that thread.

Thanks.

Biz,

Just did this recently no real trick. Unscrew the filter housing (need to use a filter wrench) pull the filter off stick the new one on (put the new o ring on the housing tighten to spec DONE.. I got the correct filter wrench off the internet as not to crush/chew up the plastic housing. If you don't have check the local part store they might have it. Put the new crush ring on the drain plug should come with the filter usually taped to the box. Drain plug is a allen type setup I think it was 11mm (check that to be sure) Be sure not to over tighten as you can strip it. Mobil 1 0w-40 recommended by Porsche (there are other theroies on this one but I used what the said to use) 9 quarts Done ....................... One of the Easiest oil changes to do in my opinion. Everything is in the best location. GOOD LUCK................................

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking more along the lines of what do you “stick the new one on” to? What holds the filter element in place so you can then reinstall the “filter housing”?

Also, what specs for the plug and the filter housing? Somewhere I read 35 lbs/ft and 18 lbs/ft respectively? Are these what you have used and or does Porsche have other numbers?

Thanks.

I was watching when the mechanic did mine. You just pluck the old filter off of this peg-like thing [yes, I'm really technical, eh?] and you push the new filter back on the peg thing.

Pelican Parts has/had a nice instruction. "Tighten the filter housing to 25 Nm (18 Ft/Lbs). Replace the crush washer on the drain plug. Reinstall the drain plug and tighten it to 48 Nm (35 Ft/Lbs)."

There was also one on Porsche Pete's Boxster Museum Board. PM me and I'll send both.

Thanks for your replies. Taking Friday off from work to tackle the oil change (among other things). Gotta run down to AutoZone to pick up a container big enough for the oil.
