What Spark Plugs and Why?
Hey everyone. I had to top off my power steering pump today because it has been whining at me and I also went ahead and replaced my air filter (needed it bad) and got my first oil change since owning the car. I dissected the oil filter and I am proud to say it is completely metal flake free at 67k miles. I am driving over 1000 miles a month now so with good oil and always being lubed I think my engine is in for a long life.
Anyways enough of a prequel. I am going to do my plugs next weekend and I am curious as to what you all are running and why. Thanks. |
Denso Iridium. But get the correct heat range !
Change them and the oil more frequently than Porsche require(cheap & easy!) look for leaks from the spark plug tubes.Look for cracks in the coils. Some great videos for this task on You tube and diy at Pelican Parts. |
I have Wayne's book so everything as far as replacement is more than clear. I am just trying to see if people have had more success with certain plugs. Just like in my drag car these plugs require changed more frequently than most so it would seem logical to just use a copper plug in the appropriate heat range. Outside of longevity I have never seen a reason for the platinum or iridium plugs. I am wondering if anyone has actually seen improvement from them or not.

My car had Beru Ultra 14FGR-6KQU 4 prong type plugs in it when I changed them. I went with Bosch FGR6KQE 4-Prong Spark Plugs.
Can't beat this deal. 6 Pieces Bosch FGR6KQE 4 Prong Spark Plug Porsche 911 Boxster Cayenne 8CYL | eBay EDIT: You didn't state what motor you have. Those plugs are for the 3.2L motor. http://www.boschautoparts.com/auto/spark-plugs/super-plus-spark-plugs?partId=7413 |
[Sorry about that. Its a 2002 base 2.7
Would base versus S make a difference? Is there a substantial compression difference? Quote:

I just looked it up on Bosch's website. You would use the same spark plug.
