DME relay removal for engine cranking
 

Is there any negative to removing the DME relay for engine cranking without staring?

....it's for building up oil pressure prior to start..after engine work

Just take out the fuel pump fuse. Very easy.

Yes that would be easier but I would think that there is a good chance of it catching and dying. Ignition is still there along with fuel. I was hoping that the relay removal would take away ignition with no detrimental effects.

The goal being to strictly limit the engine to cranking rpms

I have been thinking about this same issue
Now that car sits 2-3 weeks at a time and it's a very cold start, It ain't Pretty
I have resorted to cranking and turning off ignition a couple times before it catches
This makes for a more quiet start up but it somehow prevents the Secondary Air pump from coming on and it's a bit rougher as there is gas loaded up

Yeah, I jog it with the key over something like 5 mins....not good for the starter or positive oil pressure

We have customers that store their cars in near zero conditions for months at a time without ever starting them. And when spring comes, they light right off with no ill effects. As long as the oil remains fresh, which it won't if you keep starting the car all winter, and you used an oil with good film strength, letting it sit for several months will not cause any problems.

Unless you have had the engine apart, or replaced part of the oiling system, there is no need to wind the car into oil pressure, it will nearly instantly get there all by itself when normally starting it.

...so assume there is just cause DME relay out and crank is okay???

Just pull the fuel pump fuse - the engine will not start up as the fuel pressure drops over a couple of hours. That's why you hear the fuel pump run when the ignition is first switched on from an overnight stop. Try it - it will take a minute to prove.......

If you are determined to go down this road, you could easily wire the fuel pump to an isolation switch on the console for cold starts.
