Battery Replacement Question
 

G'Day figure it is time to replace the original Moll battery after 10+ years of loyal service in my 04 Boxster SE. So have read somewhere that one should leave the Porsche battery maintainer plugged into when replacing the battery to retain settings?

If you have a maintainer with the specific setting to do this, yes, it will preserve all your personal settings in the car. If your maintainer does not have a specific setting for this, it may or may not work.

You don't have radio codes to lose. Your ECU will relearn its settings after a couple of runs. So maybe you lose window and seat settings.

I've read of people hooking up a 9 volt through the cigarette lighter (I don't know if the lighter socket is always live on a Canadian delivered car, it was on a US one). Since I never knew what was + and which - in the lighter, I didn't bother, just replaced the battery with a new one and reset things as I came across them. Since I was the only driver, I doubt I even did anything but reset my radio code (earlier model than your most radio one).

SITREP Just changed the battery without back-up power no problem. Made sure doors, rear trunk open. Battery weighs 55lbs so just stepped into trunk and lifted out in stages, watch your back. Make sure that the battery you choose has the vent tube hole to match. Thanks for feedback.
