Tiptronic A8600-101 VS A8600-1103

Hello.

I have a 97 Boxster With damaged tiptronic, this i A8600-101 my question is if I can use a A8600-103 from a 99 Boxster? If so do I have to change the Electronic unit?

Sorry my bad English

Best regards
Geir ( newbie With Porsche )

Welcome to the Porsche/Boxster family.

We need pictures of your Boxster. We are like that on this forum. :)

Sorry if the picture did show. I got a message that I had a security problem.

I would be very happy if some one could help me with my question.
Just bought my self this car, but the tiptronic doesn't work.
Changed oil and filter. The old oil was really ugly and full of metal.

The picture worked, the link was just a little jumbled.

The 97-99 models have the same engine electronics (DME 5.2.2), so I think that the tiptronic will also be compatible. If not, you can probably get a good used transmission control module in the classified section of the forum.
If nobody has a more complete answer soon, I will research further.

Thank you for the answer. Always had a dream to buy my self a Boxster. My wife bought me this car as a present, but saddly my gearbox was damaged.

As I have seen the different between A8600-101 and A8600-102 is LDS.
But I haven`t seen anything about 103? Is a used gearbox for sale here i Norway, but it`s a A8600-103.

Hopefully it Works With my car, but afraid it should be something different With the electrical system

Geir

Full of metal??? That's not a good thing. If there are metal bits in your oil, there are metal bits in the engine. Does the 97 have the infamous IMS bearing issues?

Geir: Were the bits of metal in the Engine oil filter or the Transmission filter?

I am pretty sure that the reference to the LSD in this post: http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/47018-gearbox-code-numbers.html is only regarding the manual transmission. The Manual transmissions did have a change in 1999 (code CWA to code DVY), but not the tiptronics.

My service manual states that the A8600 transmissions apply to all of the 1997 to 1999 tiptronic Boxsters. The -101, -102, and -103 are not mentioned in the service manual. For the tiptronics, I think that they are a reference to the year of manufacture.

Ok then I understand. It was in the transmission oil that there were "metall"

You can replace your transaxle with any 97-99 tiptronic with no problems. I've heard other people on here say they have used the tiptronic from a 2000-2002 with no problems too. I would be hesitant to do that unless I really couldn't find a 97-99

Hi,

I realize this is a rather old thread, but I would love to see a follow-up on it.

I am in sort of the same situation with a dodgy A8600-101 in my car and only a A8600-103 replacement available.

If Geir is still active on this board, I am curious to know if it worked for him :-)

Best regards
Henrik H

Yes. 9 years old.

Consider starting a new thread. That may grab some attention. Good luck.
