Another engine oil question
Hi I'm looking at changing oil in my 2000s. The local parts distributor has recommended comma oil syner-g 5w 40. Would this be a good choice?
|
Take a look at Joe Gibbs DT40 5w-40
|
Joe Gibbs is probably not sold in the UK.
|
Local parts distributor as in an a generic auto parts store or an establishment dedicated to Porsche cars?
I would not put much weight into a recommendation from someone that does not work everyday on a Porsche There are Porsche factory recommendations, do a search. Mobile One is on the list DT40 is available on Amazon and is highly recommended by Jake Raby, not sure if it is on the Porsche list BTW, there are a whole bunch of threads here as well as other forums on what oil to use |
oil is cause for lots of discussion here. unless you are pushing your engine hard or never change your oil, any synthetic 5w40 should be ok. change every 8k kms. cut open your oil filter and look for anything that doesn't look like oil.
|
But RK, you are in Canada, don't you just use beer instead of oil?
 |
hah! gods honest truth - I use mobil delvac 5w40. great detergent additives. inexpensive, and available locally. a bit lower flash point is all.
in high school we used to fill the windshield washer bottle on our car with vodka and go to the 'dusk to dawn' drive-in. no beer in the crankcase however. |
Look for Porsche approval printed on the container.
|
Thanks guys I went with Shell oil in the end.
