2001 Boxster S Radio Problem
 

Hey guys, I really need your help. I have a 2001 Boxster S with a stock hu (with cd) and amp. Recently have been getting periodic crackling (sort of like a scratched vinyl record) from both the radio and the cd, and the warmer the outside temp. the worse it gets. I sent the hu into Becker Autosound but they couldn't duplicate the problem even at high temp. I then bought/installed used HAES 4X40 amp which corrected the problem for a short time but now its doing it again. Any suggestions as to what might be going on would be greatly appreciated. Thank in advance for your help.

I'm not an audio expert, but I would suspect a connection, since the condition improved after you had the amp and head unit out. I would hit the connector and receptacles in each unit with some tuner cleaner, plug and unplug the connector several times to loosen any corrosion and crud, then more tuner cleaner. See if this helps.

You can use contact cleaner as well. The difference is tuner cleaner has a lubricant for the old mechanical TV tuners. Either will worth. You could probably use MAF cleaner if you already have that.

I used contact cleaner on my light switch and it worked a charm
