986 2.7 tuning talk to me.
 

Hi guys, should have my boxster within the next two months, going for the 2.7 not the 2.5 as ive heard that the 2.7 is more reliable? Is this true?,

Any way im looking at intake and exhaust options,

Idealy id like de-cat headders and a nice sounding rear box with some sports cats in the midpipe,

A good high flow intake,

Will also be getting a light weight fly wheel
But have also heard about underdrive pullys?

The car will have a remap.

Any way as above what intake, exhaust and under drive kits would you reccomend and also what else you would reccomend, cheers

The under-drive pulleys come in different sizes, so the smaller the diameter the slower the accessories turn.

I use a Tarret UDP and I think it was 4" diameter and it moves the accessories fast enough that you still get air conditioning at idle.

You also need the right size replacement belt to go with it, which the Tarret also came with.

Light weight fly wheel is good for racing but there is some talk of it not being adequate and the possibility of over stressing the Piston rod bolts if I recall correctly and the potential engine disaster that occurs when they let go.

Probably not worth the risk unless your racing.

The 2nd CAT deletes are awesome and an after market muffler saves weight and can improve the exhaust note some.

I have the NHP exhaust configuration you described it has a very nice sound.You did not say what your budget was. Agency Power AI, IPD Plenum, 74 MM Throtle body. Doing the mechanical work on my own this was about a $4300 expense. For about 35 HP buy an S.

Well the 2.5L is statistically more reliable than a 2.7 due to the more robust IMS. Stock intake is not a significant restriction unless you increase displacement. If it will pass MOT, headers cat delete, and underdrive pulley might add 10-15hp. Aftermarket tuning software moves the powerband around without any significant improvement in lap times. It will polish your dyno slip a bit though. :)
