Tiptronic lever faulty

For several weeks now the gear lever on my 2004 boxster with tiptronic hasn't been working as it should.

It's still necessary to press the gear button to pull the lever out of Park (P) but once out of Park and into any othe gear, I no longer need to press the button . This is a little worrying as I can see myself accidentally knocking the gear from Drive (D) into Neutral (N) or even Reverse (R) while driving at speed.

Am quite handy with the spanners and would like to think I could fix this myself but wouldn't know where to start to look. Any suggestions?

Well mine doesn't even have that button! I wouldn't sweat it. You can always check the online repair manual (search forum for link) to see the diagram and do some exploratory surgery. :)

Sorry, my bad. The button is there. I guess my brain was in automatic mode and slipped into neutral. Actually I CAN change the selector from D to N without pushing the button. It won't go into R or P though.:o
