2000 Boxster S Rear Reinforcement Plate
 

Hi everyone,

My first time starting a thread! I've acquired a 2000 Boxster S sans engine and transmission. I do have a lot of the rear suspension parts that were removed to get the engine/tranny out by the PO, but I know I'm missing a rather critical part - the rear reinforcement plate. I've tried searching Pelican Parts, but they don't seem to offer this replacement part; maybe it seldom "goes bad/missing".

Does anyone have any advice to locate this part? Am I calling it by the correct name to search for it on car-parts.com, ebay, or the forum?

Look in the parts section and pick up a used one. Plenty of folks parting out Boxsters.

It looks like there are different versions for tip and manual, but not between 5 and 6 speed. The part ending in 301 looks like it is the one you need.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Steve! Unfortunately I'm still learning these things and didn't even notice a difference on the pans until I read this thread. After looking at all the plates I have, I have all 3 kinds. The difference seems to in the air baffles on top and not the aluminum plate. It also looks like the 5 speed was the only one that came with an heat shield on the vertical V brace too.

I guess I may be missing something, but the only parts catalogs I see there are pdfs on CD for older models. Is there something similar for later models?

I didn't see any 986 stuff either.

On another note. I looked at all the aluminum plates I have and they all have the same part number with different dates stamped into them. part #98633126108. The baffle riveted to the aluminum plate has a different part number too. All three different baffles have different part numbers.

Ok, so I just did a google search of both part numbers (98633126108 and 98633116301). Here are some websites describing each:

The last one is the most interesting. I don't speak Norwegian, but I'm pretty sure it says that the original part number was 98633126108 and the replacement part number (if you want to buy it from Porsche) is 98633116301.

I'm fairly sure that these are the same part, and Porsche just got sneaky and changed the part number on us to try to obfuscate enough to get me to buy a $300 replacement part. Or maybe I'm just reading into this too much... ;)

Anyway, I'm happy to try the 98633126108 and report back with my findings!

Alex, I have a 2000 S 6 speed coming in next week. If you're not in a rush, I suggest we just wait until I can verify what reinforcement plate you're suppose to get. I'm very confident I know which one you need now, but why rush it if we don't have too.

That's fine. The transmission showed up today, so I'll be futzing with that for a few days. The heat shield will probably show up around the time when I need it. I appreciate your desire to get it right!

I got that 2000 6 speed today. Took a look underneath to confirm what pan goes with what car.
The following part numbers are off the rubber air baffle/splash guard that are riveted to the aluminum pan and really dictate which one you should use with what car. All three rubber baffle/splash shields are shaped differently.
986.331.184.00 =3.2 with a 6 speed (maybe the 3.2 tiptronic too)
These next two, I'm making an educated guess by what boxsters I've taken apart
986.331.183.00 =2.5 with the 5 speed (maybe 2.7 5 speed too)
986.331.183.01 = this last one I'm not sure of. it could be a 2.5 tip, 3.2 tip or 2.7 5 speed

Nice sleuthing, Woody! It looks like that first one is the one for me. Can you send along the mounting hardware with it? Can you PM or email your payment info to me?
